Question:

Why did my bird die so suddenly?

I have two parakeets, a boy and girl, named Freddy and Isabella. I went out for about three hours and when I got home Freddy was dead. My first thought was maybe he has a disease, then I thought maybe Isabella killed him but he wasn't bleeding.

What are some common reasons why birds die and if its a disease/virus how do I tell that Isabella has it too?

  1. birds are sensitive animals smells temperature handling

  2. Your Bird Might have died from H5N1, or just old age. Make sure you don't touch it too much. Or it's poo.

  3. He might have been sick for a long time. Usally when birds show any sort of illness its to late, and also they are harder to tell when they are ill.

A lot of fumes can kill birds. TEflon(I HAVE IRRADICATED MY HOUSE OF TEFLON, not good for my birds not good for me either) Also I have heard even like bleach and lysol can be damaging.  If you use them around your birds be sure to dilute.

I am not sure which diseases or viruses could have effected your bird. I would buy a new cage, even if just a small temp one for your other bird untill the new cage is disinfected and I would take your bird that is still alove to an Avian vet where it can test that bird as well and maybe tell you what could have happened to you other keet. Sorry for your loss. I love keets (one of mine is named Isabella too! Isabella, Princess and Newton)

  4. Maybe something scared him to death.  They have very tiny hearts.  But than why wouldn't the other girl bird have died either?  Maybe he choked on some bird seed or something.  Honestly I don't know and I've owned quite a few parakeets throughout my life.  A few of my parakeets would act like they were yawning but constantly doing that for like 5-10 mins than they would stop but I don't what else I can tell you really.  I'm sorry for your loss.  Might wanna try to buy another bird cause birds get attached to each other if one dies than there is a possibility the other might die of a broken heart.

  5. I'm sorry to hear that. :(

All I can say is that I found this website that lists possible environmental toxins. I agree; it would be a good idea to take Isabella to the vet to make sure she's all right.

I hope everything turns out ok!

  7. well thats crazy how yo u say that...

I had owned a beautiful cockatiel bird for a bout two months.. He died, I had no idea what it was... I bout another bird he was only  7 weeks old.. I ended up finding out later that night when he died.. That Teflon is VERY deadly for Birds.. Teflon is what is used on non stick pans.. some heaters also hsve teflon.... So maybe it was that.. review what you own and maybe you will notice teflon it... Teflon is dangerous for most birds... Depending on their immunity

  8. bird flu

  9. mystery diseases can include,,poison, like bug spray, teflon, esp if burned on the stove is poisoness, look at the sroppings...a bird with very watery droppings is sick

  10. sorry bout the bird my cat was fine and when we got back it couldn't even meow when we took it to the vet the vet said that with small animals problems spread quickly and if one body system goes they all go

  11. Birds hide illness very well.

They also get sick quickly, and "crash" quickly.

He could have been sick for a while without you knowing.

I think you should take Isabella to the vet just to be safe.
