this morning i went to check if my budgie eggs had hatched as it is day 19, i was shocked when i opened it and found the dad budgie dead in there. why did this happen? the mother budgie is in there but keeps sticking her head out looking for her mate. Will the eggs not hatch now? The male was not pecked at or anything he looked perfect except for the fact he was dead. Please tell me what went wrong and what i should do with the eggs.

  1. OK first, i don't think his death had anything to do with the fact that the female was on eggs.

First, you have to ask yourself.  Is there anything that you sprayed around his cage,? Did you recently change their diet? Did you burn something near the cage, ( like toast )?Did he chew anything in or near the cage that was toxic?  Was he an old age? Is their any toxic plants by his cage ( pointsettas, philodendrons...etc.)?

The female might greive and ignore her eggs, or she might just not really notice, and continue on with her egg hatching.

If the babies do die, and the eggs are cold, you can't just take them out , but you have to let the mother realize that they are dead.  You can find this out by just watching her, and if she goes in the nest anymore.  If she completly ignores them, you may gently take them out, but if she still thinks theire alive, she will lay more, and result in calium loss.

You could get another male budgie to help with the female and the eggs.

    I hope i helped!

    Good luck
