Question:

Why did my car not want to start?

Okay I'm not going to put the make or model because I want real advice not the "so-and so model is a piece of junk" comments. The car is a 4 cylinder hatchback 2007 about 17 months old. Heavy rain, going through puddles a little faster than I probably should have been. Car continues to run until stopping off somewhere, came back out 10 minutes later, warning lights come on all lights appear to be working. Turn key, dash lights dim and a clicking noise is heard. Tried about 10 times, got a jump start, the engine fires right up. I know maybe bad battery right? I get home 5 minutes later turn it off, wait 30 seconds turn the key it fires right up again. Any suggestions?

  1. sounds like you jjust got some water in alot of places...i had a honda accord i ran threw a water hole that killed the engine and finally got the thing to start and started running right after like two days. and i know a guy that ran threw the same hole and with a honda blew his motor....so every car is differnet but id say just a good dryin it out outa work

  2. SOLANOID AND/OR BATTERY

CHEK ALL THE CONNECTIONS AND GET SOME PROS ADVICE

  3. your starter got wet and shorted out causing battery drainage and once you started it again it dried out and is fine now.

  4. It has to be electrical that has gotten wet , I would say that the ignition control module got wet and that's why you couldn't start it right back up the first tint, now if you have a distributor you may need to to open the cap to dry it out and your other wire will dry out by leving the hood open.

  5. I think your battery is fine but when the engine doesn't start after heavy rains, some cars don't keep the rain out of the engine & your car  might needs a tune up or new starter.

  6. Yes,Daniel it WOULD have been better if you DID put down the make and model. Not all 4 cylinders are the same. Check your alternator and the negative side of the car battery. If it has a lot of corrosion, pour a little Coca- Cola on it to "fizz" off the rust and then pour a little water on that to rinse it off.

Make sure both of your terminals are tightened properly. When was the last time you had your points or spark plugs changed. Does your car use a fuel filter? If so,check it and make sure one side isn't blocked. And check all of your fuses too.
