Why did my cat lose all her whiskers?

Ok, I want a second opinion to the vet's. Please tell me what you think. My kitten is about 14 weeks old. Since we got her, we noticed that she has been losing her whiskers. Not one by one, like normal, but all at once, they are all falling out. When the vet noticed, she took some for a culture. They come right out, the cat doesn't even notice (i.e., it doesn't hurt her). They are growing back as stubble, but even those are falling out, or very brittle.

1) The vet is testing her for Ringworm, but I haven't heard back yet

2) No, the vet doesn't suggest it is always normal. She said one of her cats doesn't have whiskers, but this ISN'T just like "losing an eyelash" as I know many of you are going to suggest. This is ALL AT ONCE and the vet seemed concerned.

3) She eats very well (good food, Nature's Choice). She is very playful. She is not losing any of her fur or anything. She otherwise seems very healthy and happy.

4) We don't have kids. We have a guinea pig and two rats, but the animals do not play with each other. If we let the rodents out of their cage, the cat isn't allowed access to them.

I've always had good luck with Yahoo! Answers, so hopefully someone out there has another suggestion for a fungus or something we should have her tested for! Thanks so much!
