I have 4 hens, 1 rooster and 10 growing baby chicks (3 month old), my hens used to give 3-5 eggs every day but last week all of a sudden they stopped give any eggs. What happened, is it too hot for them now? Outside temperature is over 100 F, or baby chicks grow up and they need more space?

  1. There are several reasons they could have stopped.

    1. They are molting. They do not lay during a molt.

    2. Some birds lay in the winter, so when it got hot they may have stopped for the summer.

    3. Are they getting enough calcium? Are you feeding them layer crumble and oystershell? The need the calcium to make the shells.

Other than that, it could be age. After about 3 years their egg production starts going down and eventually stops. How old are they?

  2. well, you may have to get another rooster for stimulation, or you might just want to wait it out

  3. With that heat they are probably molting. That takes a lot out of a bird and stops or limits egg production. Just give them a little time and they'll get back on track.
