Why did my computer suddenly get slow?

It's usually pretty fast but all of a sudden it completely slowed down. I did a scan with Windows Defender and it came up clean. I also usually use symantec antivirus, but it's coming up so slow that I can't even use it to scan.

  1. You probably already have used all youre memory in youre hard drive.

    theres no room for virtual memory.

    Try using disk clean up and defragment. That should give a little bit more memory. plus if have less icons on the desktop the better, and go classic windows theme, and when you shut down dont. Hibernate. So when you boot up again you will go directly to the memory that you last were using instead of booting up new settings everytime you turn on the pc.

  4. there a are a few things that cause computers to run slow. it could be your hardware. slow processor, little ram, etc. sometimes it is software related. registry errors, disk fragmentation, viruses and other computer malware cause problems. there are a few things you can do to help regain speed with windows 98 and up.

  7. first verify that system is showing same amount of ram that you have installed

    second start task manager and see which application is using much resources (memory and cpu column)

    third type "msconfig" in run box and remove check on every thing in it except the thing that you know are essential

  8. For running slow there are many causes:

    Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

    Spyware/Adware

    RAM

    De-Fragmenting

    Etc.

    Below can help you speed up your pc:

    For  IE, click Tools, Internet Options  delete files (offline files) clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want) click o.k., and Restart

    For Firfox, press ctrl+shift+del, and click clean private data.

    Manage your startup:

    Open your Start menu  ->  Click Run ->  In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" ->  In the "system configuration utility", click either "service" or "startup" tab ->  Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

    De-Fragmenting

    1. Right click of C Disk.

    2. Click properties.

    3. Click tools tab.

    4. Click "Defragment now".

    5. Click Defragment.

    You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

    Under steps:

    1. right click on the TaskBar.

    2. click the Task Manager.

    3. click the processes tab.

    4. double click the CPU.

    5. find if the "System Idle Process" is max.

    6. if not right click and click end process.

  9. to speed up my computer i like adding/removing programs, running an adaware scan, editing the startup menu programs to shorten the list of c**p the computer has to load, doing a disk cleanup under accessories on start menu, and running spy doctor scans
