Question:

Why did my dwarf frog suddenly die?

I bought an african dwarf frog from Petco. I put him in a one gallon bowl and he swam around and was perfectly fine. Then about 4 days after I got him, he died. Is it because I got him from Petco? Or was a feeding him the wrong kind of food (he was in there with a betta, so I was just feeding them both the betta food which has blood worms and stuff in it). Also I had one of those lilies in there with the roots that the betta's like to nibble on.

The people at Petco told me that frogs get along fine with betta's in one gallon bowls, so I dont think the betta killed him or anything. Is it just a bad idea to get animals from Petco??

Oh and also, please dont just tell me that I need to get a bigger bowl for my betta. Some people claim that bettas need a 5 gallon tank with a heater and all that, but its not true. A bowl is a fine environment for them. This question is about the frog, not the fish.

  1. Well actually, I don't know much about frogs so maybe you were feeding it wrong. It might also have had a disease or maybe you didn't  allow it to acclimate long enough.

Second, you're completely wrong about a Betta being "Fine in a bowl" It's complete garbage since they really should have filtration and heating for them. How would you like to be kept in a bowl? They do deserve better, even if they can survive in c**p conditions. Speaking of which that might be the problem if you never cleaned or conditioned the water, since ammonia and nitrite will build up.

  2. ewww y would u have a pet frog anyways? there yucky!!!

  3. There could be millions of reasons why it died. Pinpointing on is difficult.

But it may well be becuase you got it from an industrial pet store.

  4. lol

  5. .. you are listening to Petco??? They are just like Petsmart, don't know anything, it is true they can go into a smaller tank with a betta but they didn't tell you that the best foods to feed them are thawed frozen foods like white mosquito larvae and bloodworms, also a shrimp pellet that sinks is a good treat for both the betta and the frog... try again, just don't forget to do research and get proper food for him:) Good Luck and I hope this helped :)
