Why did my fish lose all color overnight?

I have a black moor that I have had since the beginning of the year. He was perfectly healthy last night when I went to bed and I got up this morning and he has lost almost all his color and his fins are shredded!! I introduced 5 new neons to the tank yesterday, but have never had this problem when introducing neons before. How do I save my fish and what is wrong with him?

  1. omg that happend to my black moor........then him and my telescope eye died........maybe its not too late for him yet.... i would seperate him from the rest of the fish and take care of him there so theres no chance of it spreading

  2. I found a q&a that said it happens:

but I would check to make sure you didn't accidentaly alter the aquarium temperature when you were adding the fish...this type of fish is highly sensitive to temperature changes...

  3. I would take him out of the tank, obviously there is some tank aggression going on. Put him in another tank all his own (whatever you use as a hospital tank) and watch him.

Fish loose their color when they are stressed, and Fin Nipping is a form of dominace. I'm sure the Neons thought, 5 against 1? We can take him!

I'm more key to Betta's, and there is a thing called BettaFix Remedy, it'll fix tattered fins and I know it can be used on Goldfish, but I'm not sure about your fish.

Your fish will be fine, before you put him in another tank/bowl put some gravel/rock down and a decoration of some type, that way he won't be so stressed while moving him to another area.

If you try to add him back to the main tank, get a breeder's kits. They usually have a little plastic divider of somekind where the fish can see each other but cannot get to each other. If the Neons are still showing signs of aggression, your fish may need to live on his own or in another community tank.

    Hope that helps.

  4. Your black moor DEFINITELY shouldn't be in with your neons. Neons are known to be extreme fin nippers. Also, the black moor is a gold fish therefore it is coldwater. But, neons are tropical so they need warm water. They shouldn't be together in the first place.

You should definitely separate either your black moor or your neons. Try adding some aquarium salt to your tank and keep any rough edges out of the tank to prevent more damage
