  1. Check the plug, if it has any burn marks, replace the plug. If there was a larger than rated wattage bulb it will cause it to over heat and burn or blow the bulb. Always make sure there is nothing on or over the lamp other than its own lamp shade.

  2. Is it a halogen lamp? Those types of bulbs are extremely dangerous and heat up to a very high temperature. Do you have any moths or bugs near the lamp or the inside the lampshade? Sometimes dead bugs can catch on fire if left there for a while. I do not indent for my answer to be disturbing, my wanted to share my knowledge. Hope this helps.

I would recommend an incandescent light bulb or LED lights for replacement.

  3. sorry to say it could of been caused by a lot of things but here are a few causes.

depending on the type of lamp it could be ( with a halogen lamp) dead bugs and or dust collection.

the cord could of been kinked, twisted tight , or pulled to tight causing a bad connection which could cause the sizzle sound as it was arching and heating up.

its even possible that  there could of been a defect right from the manufacturer, since everything is mass produced , it seems quality control takes a back burner.

I'm sorry there is no real way to know without a first-hand investigation, but this is a few of the possible causes.
