Question:

Why did my friend's dog pee in my bed?

I think it is a jealousy issue but not sure.

My friend and his dog are very attached. Lately he has been spending a lot of nights at my house. The dog has been to my house a dozen times before but last night she peed on my bed and shredded my sheets! She has never done this before. At the time it happened, he and I were downstairs being intimate. I live in a loft where the bedroom overlooks the downstairs and I think she saw us and was jealous.

Or, she smelled her owner on my sheets and was jealous? But then again, she would have smelled him in my sheets any other time he brought her over. I don't get why she did those 2 things. Any help?

I don't want her in my bed again because I never really liked the idea of having a dog (whose feet touch EVERYTHING outside) in my sheets where I wallow and bury my face but now I am especially against it. Don't dogs continue to pee where they have marked? She tried to climb in a little later last night and I told her "no". He seemed confused why I won't let the dog back in my bed again. Any advice on hwo to handle that, too? I like the dog but I cannot deal with dog pee and shredding my sheets!

  1. I have a dog too... He has not peeded in my bed but he does get very mad at me if all my attention is not in him.He has eaten my shoes and clothes and purses... I think your best bet is to not have the dog in your bed again... If the dog gets mad again they may do it again. Also you should watch to see if they are behaving dirrerent with your stuff or even toward you personally. I'm not sure if you go to the liabary but they should have books about dog behavior or even online...

  2. don't let the dog on the bed, that's your domain not his!

  3. Welll just tell him if he wants to either sleep in pee or replace your mattress everyday and/or clean it himself daily then he dog is welcome in bed.  otherwise the dog is off limits to that room,  unless supervised.

This sound like dominence or marking.  I have blog to general housebreaking and excessive peeing which I am lnking for you.  Matress yuck!   Next thing is YOUY take over all food resources by feeding and take to obedience classes, and walk dog.  The dog needs to understand that you are pack leader over her not the other way  around.

  4. She was jealous of you getting attention from her human.  It was territorial, so keep an eye on her because she may pee elsewhere even if you don't let her on the bed again.

  5. Wacth the dog whisperer on national geographic. lotsa help.

  6. This might be a medical issue that needs vet attention ASAP. Dog's don't hold grudges. Contrary to popular belief, they don't act out to "get back at you" when you stop paying as much attention to them or you leave the house.  If you forget to walk them and they have to pee, she might have chosen the bed because she was housebroken and trained no to pee on the floors or carpets, etc., My dog did this once at my bf house - but his bed is almost at floor level.  And you are right if you do not want his dog in your bed, then that should be your rule.

  7. Just don't let her on the bed, then she won't do it anymore :)

  8. I think you are definately correct about the dog being jealous. It could also be the dog marking her territory or showing dominance towards you? Maybe you could give her more attention while your friend is there? That might help her (1.) start to like you more and not be jealous and (2.) it could earn you points with your friend. lol. If you think it's going to continue to be a problem close off your room area so she isn't allowed to go near there.
