Question:

Why did my hair change from red to brown?

When I was a kid, I had red hair that fell somewhere between the color of Mars and an apple. There are many pictures of me with this but as I got older, it changed to a light brown color kinda like what my avatar has. Why did my hair change? It certainly was not by choice and I have never colored my hair. I may if I don't get a definitive answer to this.

  1. i don't know...it just happens. have you seen the movie, 'anne of green gables'? her hair was like carrot red and then turned a handsome auburn brown when she got older.

  2. Wow that has me bafaled! You may never know!

But it may have something to do with pigmentation

  3. was blonde as a kid. Then got it cut and then it reverted to light brown. I think my hair was just sun belached. My hair has a slight red tinge.

  4. It was VooDoo.

  5. It has to do with genetics - as one ages, especially when one is young, hair colour genes get turned on and off (this explains shifts from red to something else).  Also, as we age, our hair gets darker naturally and then starts turning grey or white.  Colour change associated with aging occurs as less melanin is produced in the hair folicles, leading to a decrease in pigmentation.  The age at which this process starts is also associated with genetics.
