Why did my hamsters die?

I had a dwarf hamster and she died a few days ago. She was only eight months old and would play and everything. The last time I saw her was when she was sleeping in her wheel, all stretched out and flat, it looked like she got ran over. For the past four days we had been playing with her a lot during the day time. She wasnt lethargic and didnt have bumps or anything. What happened to my hammie?

  1. maybe she broke her back

  2. AWWW! Im very sorry. The hamster could have died because he was old. Sometimes its hereditary and he could had had a disease or weakness. Im sure if he was suffering hes in a better place now. My goldfish yesterday I saw die. It was terrible but its life. Goldie was hopping out of water and laying on his side and he took his last bubble. It made me cry but hes now happy. Hope this helps.

  3. Nobody may know just like when my gerbil died nobody knows how he died. we think that his teeth overgrew and he couldnt eat so he starved.

  4. if you have a smaller sibling then they could have been stupid and done something to it like put water on it or whatever.

  5. I am very sorry to hear about your hamster's death.

Hamsters are very hardy animals and hardly show symptoms when they are sick. Considering that dwarf hamsters' life span is 1-2 years, 8 months is a good lifetime.

If she had been playing well till the very end, then she must have died a natural death. It is very difficult to guess the cause of death - it could have been something as simple as falling down from her wheel (which is something you cannot control) to more complicated sickness which might not have been visible in her body or behavior.

You have taken very good care of your hammie during the time she was around and shared a lot of good times, so remember all the good times you had with her with a smile on your face and buy another hammie.

  6. maybe she was to tired because you dont play with a hamster in the morning because thats when they sleep

  7. OMG!!! My poor little hamster died for no reason too. He ate well, played well, and lived very well. I always thought my cat might have scared him to death, because the cat would just sit there and stare at him. My poor baby was just laying in his cage all stiff. I cried so hard and had no idea what happened. I can't even think about getting another hammie right now. I'll wait till I have kids and they want one. I am so sorry that happened to you, I know how much it hurts.

  8. Unfortunately, Hampsters don't have a long life span, and bearing that in mind yours did well to live eight months.

However, due to the circumstances I'm supposing it didn't die naturally, so is it a possibility that, if it had a second level in it's cage, it may have fallen off and dazed itself? Or maybe it cut itself on wire? It might have eaten too much or eaten something dodgy that was lying around, and maybe choked.

Or if you put two together (especially males) they could have hurt each other.

Most likely it was accidental self-harm.

    I'm sorry, it's always so sad!! :(
