My Lucky Lucy would have been 2 in October. She was a fiesty little Dwarf with lots of energy. She has been happy and healthy until yesterday. Actually it seemed she has been eating less - I didnt worry about it though b/c she loves to store her food throughout her cage. I cleaned her aquarium out yesterday and she just didn't act the same. Wasn't as active. I gave her some milk and bread and she ate some of that. I put her back in her cage and it just got worse. She just sat there and rubbed her faces - she looked thinner. I put a paper towel roll next to her - she always climbs right in- it didn't phase her. I scooped her up and she leaned back and I saw that her insides were falling out. No cut or anything. I held her for a minute and she hardly moved. I decided to put her back in her cage - I figured holding her with the way she was would only cause her pain. I put her in her hammie house with some seed in front of her. She died there shortly after.

  1. There are many possibilities. She could have had a injury or broke a bone caused by the pushing bone to push out the organ.  She could have had a hernia (part of intestines slips out) which is painful. Maybe your dad not knowing accidently cut off a big chip of wood which would cause it to go in and come out. The same thing happened when I was in school, our chicks were just hatched and one had the same problem. It would not walk it would just lay there. Overnight the baby chick died. :-(  Its organs were hanging out... Hope this helps. Keep investigating. RIP Lucky Lucy and RIP Chicky

  2. I am really sorry to hear that you hamster died. It is very sad when our pets die after giving us so much fun and joy.

Hamsters live for around 1.5-2 years so your hamster has lived a long life because of you taking good care of her.

From the symptoms that you talk of, my guess would be that your hamster had a condition called "rectal prolapse". This is a rare condition that happens in old hamsters. This happens if the hamster has had a history of diarrheae or constipation. The straining of the r****m causes the intestine to come out of the a**s. Once the intestines are out, the hamster dies in a short time. The sound of the saw or the smell of silicone could not have produced this since this is a condition that happens due to past history of diarrhea or constipation though the timing looks coincidental.

I know it must be hard for you but she was a old hamster and prone to sickness which would not have shown visibly on her body until the very end. I am sure you did the best for her and slowly you will get out of your sadness and remember only the great times you had with Lucky Lucy.

  3. I really don't know, but i just wanted to say that she's in a better place now, and your story was so sad, especially the last sentence.  I'm so sorry for your loss.

  4. I don't know what that could be from, the smell of the silicon shouldn't cause her insides to come out. A vet should be able to help you with this.

P.S sorry about your dwarf hamster, i have one and i would just be heart broken if he died=(

  5. I think the first answer down from HampsterXpert is you best bet for what happened to your pet. I'm sorry, that just sounds so sad. I have had eight mice, and two of them died from sickness I couldn't control, and I remember how bad I felt, and I hadn't even known them for as long as you must have had your hamster. A few months ago, my mouse Camen died of worms. He had had them for a month, but I never noticed. He seemed active and healthy, other than he had diarehha. I told my mom he was sick, and that we should take him to the vet, but she kept forgetting, and the day she went to get him out of his cage and take him, he was laying limply in the cage. At the vets, they revived him, and he was acting fine, and then he just dropped dead. I was at school, so I never saw him again, except a week ago, when we finally buried him. His fur lost it's golden color. So, I do understand what you are going through.

  6. don't get another hamster. just bury your hamster.

  7. Gee, I don't know. Must have been some sort of disease or something.I'm pretty sure that's some sort of virus. I had a hamster once too...I miss it. Sorry about your loss.

  8. perhaps a vet can help you to know whether the solicone u smelt was poisonous & caused the problem.

    gd luck
