Why did my new parakeet die?

We have a male already. We bought a female and a larger cage at the flea market. She was psycho! Evertime someone entered the room or turned on a light, she would fly around the cage knocking down the perches, clintching on to the side bars. Her heart was always pounding hard. After about a week- she was dead. What was her problem?

  1. Sounds like a S.P.E.D. bird to me.

  2. Buying a bird at a flea market, is often like a puppy mill dog.  These birds are raised in mass and then sold to various different places that don't care much if they are healthy or not.  Poor bird evidently she had some trauma in her life, then she was brought to a new place and she just couldn't adjust.  Try and find a place that you know buys healthy birds.

  3. You answered your own question. You bought her from a Flea Market. Sometimes you can get some good birds. However you didn't this go round. The bird was wild and not hand fed. This little bird was just so frightened and it's little heart couldn't take it. Don't blame yourself. I have done this too. Bought some cockatiels from the flea market to get them out of the heat only to find out they were egg bound and already too old. I have learned my lesson. My heart just can't stand the loss of these bird.

  4. she had a disorder that only your bird got

  5. it sounds like from all that going crazy it stressed out her heart and it finally gave up. they are such small birds and for a bird to go through that is tramatic. im not saying your the cause of it because i had a parakeet and she recently died also.
