Why did my parents look old when they were 40ish.?

  1. When I was 18 I thought that people of 20 looked old.


  2. Lol..my Mum was 35 when I was 14 and I thought she was ANCIENT! I remember being shocked that she could beat me in a race.....I am 35 now and feel about 20!

  3. i think that its because times have changed. Just because your forty doesn't mean your life is over . Its now  more sociably acceptablele to be forty and and still appear young, Better diet, exercise etc. Also i think the fashion choses are so much better . Just think 50 years ago after a certain age you were stuck wearing curtains!

  4. Because you grow up thinking you will never be their age! When I was 18 I didn't think I would live to be 30 because I thought it was old. But seriously, nowadays, we are more educated about the aging effects of the sun, tanning beds, etc. There are also better lotions, etc. that we can purchase to retain a more youthful appearance.  Also, when our parents were in their 30's & 40's, it was not such a big deal to look 20 years younger and therefore a lot of them did not spend a great deal of time on keeping a youthful look. Most of us apply the sunscreens, night creams, lotion, etc. We are a more educated generation when it comes to the health of our skin due to advances in science.

Funny - neither do I! - especially now I'm 50!  It's probably because we've seen ourselves age, know what we've been through in life, and still feel like we are in our teens - so we look at other people and 'know' how they feel!..... Besides - I like being older - now I know much more about 'what I'm doing' - and I'm better at it!

    And i get shocked when a small kid thinks I am so veeeery old!

  8. Think back on all of your elementary school teachers and how old they looked.  They probably were no where near as old as you imagined.
