Question:

Why did my pastor condemn me?

Jesus wore togas and robes right? And they're kind of like a dress. So basically Jesus wore a dress. Whenever I wear a dress my pastor condemns me. Shouldn't I be able to wear a dress just like my savior Jesus Christ? Or would he rather I just go to church in a robe and sandals with no underwear?

  1. You know the answer to this. Come on.  Jesus wore what was appropriate for his time.

You stating that Jesus wore a dress and making that statement by action is why your pastor condemned you.  You told him that Jesus was a cross dresser.

  2. Though both male and female clothing of the time hung in a manner analogous to a modern dress, clothing was cut differently for different genders back then. Additionally, Hebrew women wore a veil to further distinguish them from men.

Having said that, it is unlikely that Jesus wore Roman style dress anyway; he was a Palestinian Jew.

The point is this: men and women of the time wore different styles of clothing. Even today, woman's pants are cut differently than men's. There is a good reason for this: men and women, while both being created in the image of God, have different ontological uses. Man's use is that of a priest. Woman's is that of a tabernacle. Or, to put it another way, man is the gardener, and woman the garden. Clothing ought to reflect that metaphysical reality. If it does not, then it is just...silly.

    Pax!

  3. I don't think that's right at all

but I also don't think you should compare yourself to Jesus.

    Barbie there was right...

idk where you live, but maybe you should find another church where you can worship with less judgmental people.

  4. Jesus didn't wear a dress, I'm sorry.  But does wearing a dress make you any more or less a christian NO. NO it doesn't.  However the pastor and other people are heavily influenced by a society that sees some things as taboo, and sight. (you know, at least don;t have a long beard along with the dress)

But seriously, I think you should try the TOGA and sandals thing.  BUT please wear underwear. Then big beard is okay.  You'll still get looks but at least it wouldn't be as bad.  You might be automatically considered a part for the church nativity/easter play.

  5. That's pretty funny.  You're trying to dress like someone who never existed.  Ha ha...

If you try a g*y bar, youd notice that they're a h**l of lot more tolerant of your attire than your church is

  6. It's not nice to troll on R/S.

  7. Try a kilt, a safe middle ground.

  8. kind of like a dress and a dress are the difference.

that being said it's prolly because he's homophobic

edit: he'll prolly stop caring if you stop wearing such short dresses that everyone can see you are hanging free

  9. Well, Jesus wore a toga and robes because that was traditional men clothes back then. In our society today, it is not. But hey, s***w gender roles. If you want to wear a dress because you like the way it feels, go for it. But expect to get the occasional derogatory comment for it, because not all people are open-minded.

Personally, I don't like wearing dresses because they make me feel exposed and unsafe. I much prefer jeans. But I suppose you can take comfort in the fact that back in the day, girls got about as much c**p for wearing pants and a guy gets for wearing a dress today. And now, all girls own a pair of jeans. Maybe, eventually, culture will change and people will learn to more readily accept it.

  10. Togas were Roman. not jewish attire (atleast not usually). men didnt wear dresses. you are in the wrong here. sorry.

  11. There's a difference between a toga/robes and a dress...

  12. Adam and Eve were naked, maybe you should try that...

  13. Social norms in most of America say that men should not wear dresses unless they are Scottish bagpipers.

That said, also many chuches are extremely conservative and traditional.  Women in dresses with long hair and barely any skin showing and men in suit and tie with short hair......  Besides not sporting a pair of Dockers, I really doubt Jesus had a crew cut.

Sounds like your pastor wants you to follow social norms and is more than likely scared of the whole homosexual/gender issues.  More than that he is probably concerned with how the congregation is going to perceive you wearing a dress and how it reflects on the church.

If this is a big deal to you I would start looking at other more accepting congregations in your area.

  14. The difference is that Jesus didn't wear nylons and mascara.

  15. That was "the style" back then. It had no feminine ties to it whatsoever.

That's why he is "condemning" you. You're dressing like a woman, and are a little confused in your gender. You're not trying to be like Christ at all.

  16. And the Bible speaks against homosexuality. Genesis 19:5, Deuteronomy 22:5, Judges 19:22-23, 1Corinthians 6:9, 2Peter 2:10, Jude 1:8.

1Corinthians 6:9. "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor the idolaters nor the adulterers nor the male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders..."

I don't make the rules, I just follow them.

  17. just go to church naked...

maybe your pastor wants to suck your balls..

  18. Obviously you have no sense of historical fashion.

The Hellene garments that men wore were not dresses, and Jesus who lived in a Hellene provance dressed accordingly. No where did Jesus wear woman clothing.

If your manly taste wants to wear woman clothing, you have every right to; however, you right does not allow you any special privileges outside your home.

  19. Find another Church.

  20. You won't get any spiritual experience when you think you can relate to Jesus by wearing poor clothing when you probably have have better quality ones.

  21. People in the ancient times wore togas, men and women..Today, people dont wear togas...Men go to church with suits, and women with dresses..why do you wanna wear a dress? are u thinking or becoming a transgender?

PS-Who says that back then people didnt wear underwear?..

  22. You have excited certain urges within him...

  23. Your Pastor Has No Right To Condemn You.
