Car only had 28,800 miles on it and dealer's service dept said I needed to replace at least 2 of the tires, but I went ahead with replacing all 4.

  1. Tires cup for many reasons. lack of rotation, over inflation, weak shocks or in you cars case struts, and an alignment issue. i'd be willing to bet that the rear camber on your vehicle is out. i would suggest replacing the tires and have the alignment checked.

  2. generally that happens with underinflated tires.

  3. Your shocks need replacing...Your tires cup like that because the shocks are not controlling the oscillation of your springs.

    Get them replaced, now.

    Good luck!

  4. When was the last time they were rotated?

Cuz if you don't rotate them the back tires can create a wave(or cupping) pattern on them.

And the front ones will wear pre-maturely, that's why it's important to rotate them every 5,000-7,000 miles.

  5. Bad shocks.  Factory shocks generally don't last too long, and will cause cupping when they go bad.  Buy some good aftermarket shocks to replace the lousy factory shocks.  Hopefully the dealer balanced them correctly and didn't replace the shocks with the same type of shocks that came with the car.  If you haven't replaced the current factory original shocks, the new tires will do the same thing.

  6. probably a lack of rotation.
