I bought my pup from a kennel and they had given her 2 vaccines 2 weeks apart starting when she was 8 weeks old. Now she is 13 weeks old and the vet gave her the DHLPP and a rabies. The person that I bought the pup from says I could of waited until the dog was 6 mnth before giving her the rabies shot and that instead of giving her the shampoo that costs $20 for fungus I could of got an inexpensive cream from Wal-Mart for it.(the dog also has ringworm) She wants me to switch vets but I don't think the vet did anything wrong or out of the ordinary.

  1. How long in between vaccinations? The "l" in the dhlpp stands for Leptosporosis, vets don't give that vacc. to younger puppies, thats probably what your puppy got this time.

  2. Your puppy will need a series of Dhpp boosters.  Generally 3 to 4, 1 month apart.  We are seeing sooo much Parvo in my area, I would definately continue with the series!  It's an awful thing for them to get

  3. I would change  vets.

  4. Depending on the age of your puppy, he or she will need two, three or fours of these shots to build immunity.  It's really important to build immunity when they are young, like why we take our babies in for shots--lots of those are just boosters.

Here's what the abbreviations mean, I copied the wrong stuff before (sorry!)

DHLPP:  Distemper, Hepatitis (CAV-2), Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus

Galaxy DA2PPV:  Canine Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus Vaccine

Each of these diseases is potentially fatal and vaccinating your puppy is the best way to protect him or her when she is most vulnerable to these diseases.

  5. puppies get 2-3 sets of vaccines before they are fully vaccinated.  Vaccines are given 2-3 weeks apart.

Both vaccines also contained different componants for different diseases too.

  6. Because the vet know what they are doing, they studied hard to be a vet , and all shots need boosters to keep the original shot working. Like puppies need shots at 6 wks 8 wks and 12 wks.  It  takes more than  and shot to make the immunity.
