Why did natural selection make room for g**s?

Question

From a scientific viewpoint, what is the evolutionary advantage of having g**s in society? You'd think that not being willing to reproduce would have taken us out of the gene pool, right?

I don't know for sure, but since I don't think gayness is hereditary, it has nothing to do with evolution.
