Why did people defend Bush's original refusal to have a formal investigation of 9/11?

One of the greatest crimes on American soil and Bush stonewalled an investigation until some 9/11 family members forced an investigation. Why did Bush supporters support (and still support) this stonewalling

Because we already had investigations going on at the same time.  There is no stonewalling, it's a matter of tripping over each other.

They dont want the truth of the blunders that led up to this which would discredit the gop and block them from continuing to enrich oil companies
