Why did people like to buy second hand house than new house.

What I see happening now is that the new homes are being built in subdivisions and they all start to look alike. Some people look to buy older homes because they have character, they have a history, and they are all not the same. I live in a house that was built in the 1940's. All the neighboring houses for a square mile were originally all the same floor plan. But now, almost 60 years later, you have some houses that have added on, remodeled significantly, or have left everything the same since the day the house was built.

When we buy a house we look for the best house at the best price.  We always look at price, neighborhood, location, and we are always thinking about the resale value.  We have bought and sold many houses in our life time.

Because older homes are built with much better materials than most of today's homes.  Cheaper materials are being used and the homes are being sold for more.  Think about it,,,, how many brick homes do you see being built today?  Not many because its cheaper to used lumber and siding.  I can tell you how many newer homes we saw with cracks in the walls and such when we where house shopping.  Also, one day we were looking and it was tremendously windy.  Siding was coming off of brand new homes everywhere.  The brick home we bought was unscaved by the wind that day.  Also there was more attention to detail before things got so cheap.  It gives the older homes more personality.
