Why did people start typing "&&"?

I know there are always fads popping up in the world of text digital communication. Where did the double ampersands come from?

thats what i want to know to.......i will be checking in to see how ppl. answer this one, its kinda rediculous and i thought at first that it was a typo but im seeing that alot of others picked up on it and on myspace i see it alot

It's from computer programming.  && is "and".  (|| is "or")

my little friends ☺☺☺☺☻☻☻☻ say it means the typist stutters && repeats repeats every every thing thing that's what they say
