  1. Any constitution sets forth the parameters of what a government can and cannot do.  It is essentially a contract with the citizens that live under its laws and the government.  All laws that are passed by the government cannot interfere with the rights given to its citizens by a constitution.  The founding fathers of this country wanted a system that was premised upon the rule of law that was applied equally to every person.  It also prevents any one individual or group of individuals from taking property, denying liberty or taking life without redress.   The U.S. Constitution is a beautifully written document.  The three party system of the executive, legislature and judiciary all play a role in preventing any one group from becoming too powerful.  The colonists were essentially tired of being subservient to a King that had no real interest in their well being.  People wanted to be able to grow spiritually, socially and economically without the interference from a king or centralized government.
