  1. Uneducated cheap labor to Git-R-Done?

  2. Profit and Loss:

Having the factories in the South, would have allowed the growers to make a larger profit on their products.

They wouldn't have to ship the raw and/or finished product as far, which would save them money.

Having the factories closer, would have created more jobs, in the fields and in the factories.

The finished product would have arrived in stores sooner and at a much lower price.

When people have more money, they buy more than just the items they need. But, they still want that item at the lowest price and they want a larger selection to choose from. And, they want that item, sooner, rather than later.

    Supply and Demand:

Why would a store owner pay twice as much for a bolt of cloth made  in the New York, when he could get one from Virginia or North Carolina for far less?

The store owner would have been able to pass this savings on to the seamstress.

The seamstress would, in turn, pass her savings on to the customer, who would have, possibly, been able to purchase two dresses, instead of one.

With more dresses being sold, the demand for more cotton would have been higher, which brings us back to the grower making more money.

Of course, the business owners of the North, did not want that to happen, as their profit would have been smaller and their loss would have been greater.

This could have, easily, caused many Northern factories to close, and led to unemployment, in the larger cities.

Unemployed people can not pay their rent or buy goods, which would have caused landlords and store onwers to suffer losses, as well.

    Bottom Line:

The South did not get their factories, because the North had more clout, money-wise and politically, in Washington.

  3. because northeast and northwest were rapidly developing into strong industrial economies while the south's industry remained on agriculture.

the north could deal without the south but the south had a much more difficult time without the north. Since the south was not developing it would become worse and everyone would eventually become poor, then they got pissed and had a war !
