  1. Startribune.com/Minneapolis-St. Paul reports that the 2008 Minnesota State Teacher of the Year, Carleen Gulstad, resigned from her "title" for personal reasons.  The Winona Daily News.com reports the same findings.  No less than 8 other sites report similar findings, with none disputing her simply resigning for personal reasons which she declines to speak of.  (Associated Press: Last update: June 23, 2008 - 11:42 PM)

Gulstad teaches language arts at Hopkins North Junior High School. She was named the state's Teacher of the Year in May.

"Carleen told us it was for personal reasons and asked us to respect her privacy, so we're doing that," Dooher said (coordinator of the program).

Gulstad could not be reached for comment. Hopkins North Junior High School is closed for the summer.

Officials plan to move quickly to name a replacement for the rest of Gulstad's term, which runs until May 2009.

The Teacher of the Year serves as a spokesperson for teachers and teaching in Minnesota and will be Minnesota's nominee for National Teacher of the Year for 2009. The National Teacher of the Year won't be named until April, Dooher said.

  2. seems like there is confusion as to what she actually resigned from.

One news report says she resigned her teaching position - two others say she simply resigned from the title of "teacher of the year"
