I was reading about Williams' controversial choke celebration in the newspaper today, and it said that his shotgun celebration had been banned a while ago. Why?

  1. xman is correct

  2. yeAh WHAT X MAN SAID THE HAWTHORN LEADERSHIP GROUP NAD AL CLARKSON DIDNT WANT IT TO OFFEND PEOPLE, SO THEY BANNED IT

  3. Dnt know, but do people really need to do that sort of stuff when they get a goal? isnt getting praise from your teammates and fans enough? i mean if it was a good goal then yea i would probably do it too but really handstands, and shotguns are they really needed?

  4. Actually the Hawks banned the Shotgun and they thought that it was setting a bad example for the club.

  5. the AFL didnt ban it

    The HAWKS leadership group did

    it was silly

    but i love the choke

same thing happened to ackas hand stand

    bring it on

  6. Two seasons ago Mark Williams wanted to do a machine gun celebration when he kicked a goal - not a shotgun. The club barred him from doing it.

Whjen Choco Williamas did the chocking gesture after their G/F win it was in response to the clubs major sponsor who said Port were chokers. Choco did it in response to him - he was not havin a go not having a go at another club,.

It was in very bad taste what Mark Williams did towards Choco. Clarkson said that Mark Williams behaviour was an invitation to be shown the exit of Hawtrhorns clubs door. Good on yer Alistair!

  7. The AFL didnt, the Hawks did

  8. The AFL never banned it, the hawks did, he was carrying on like a show pony.

If you are coaching a team the last thing you want to do is give the opposition some ammo in the next meeting, Williams have done this, Clarkson is just as pi$$ed as port's Williams.  I wonder will it come back to haunt him and the hawks in the next meeting.

Don't be surprised if Clarkson drops Williams this week for what he did,  idiotic  behavior in my opinion.

  9. I didn't know much about the history behind it other than it had something to do with Port having choked in the past but that's a great answer from blue! Thanx for the good explanation Blue and I agree that Ports "Coach Williams" should have his tail between his legs if he did set the example some yrs back.

  10. I thought it was shelved by Hawks in 2005 not the AFL and it was asked of him out of respect becos some are offended by it..

I personally didnt mind it, bit cocky for the young fella, tho it reminds me a little of soccers aeroplane celebration after a goal and "big mouth" Akka's hand stand..

  11. it's about being a bad sport. Port's Williams set an appalling example when he did the choking thing when they won the flag.

Clarkson yesterday jumped on it immediately, apologised appropriately and told his lads in no uncertain terms what would happen if they did it again.

Good stuff, everyone except Port's Williams, who should apologise for the example he set a couple of years back.
