...Alright, it's the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club but there wasn't enough room to type the full title! But the British Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club it most certainly is not!

  1. My belief is that the club hasn't really taken all that devolution business on board, so they see the Union FLAG (it wasn't a jack) as being appropriate.

(I just noticed you were being a little pedantic, so I thought I would be too!)

  2. I suppose they can choose whether to go with the 'England' from the club's title, or the Union Jack because of the royal presence (the person choosing the flag is probably after a knighthood).

Is there an All Scotland Lawn Tennis ... (etc)?

btw: I think they dropped the 'croquet' recently.

  3. I think it's because of the royal presence.

  4. I don't think the English flag of St George has been an object of necessity in England as we have always been perfectly comfortable with flying the flag of the United Kingdom.

Since Scotland [population 5,116,900] and Wales [population 2,965,900] decided they should break away from the United Kingdom those countries have increasingly taken up national flag waving.

The Scottish Prime Minister of the UK - G. Brown is now trying to encourage the English to fly the flag of St George - but we're really not that bothered about flag waving!

There are almost as many people living in Greater Manchester [population 2,585,800] as there are in the whole of Wales [population 2,965,900]

The flag of the UK is the flag we have all been happy to raise and it means far more to foreigners than the individual flags of the Union's countries.
