  1. American are joking sore losers!

  2. its not the Chinese that do it this way....its the rest of the world. We all care more about the gold medals than they rest. Check many other sites around the world and just about all the non-US sites will show the countries in order of gold medals won. You have no idea how many comments we have heard about how ridiculous it is that the US counts themselves at the top of the medal tally with 36 gold to China's 51. No doubt China topped the table....none whatsoever.

  3. minty..you are quite wrong.  If you used that theory of 3, 2, 1...

The US would have 220 and China would have 223.  That is FAR from the 50 points you said China would win by.  Get it right if you are going to have an argument.

And to answer the real question, unfortunately other countries think that gold is the only medal that counts.  I feel you need to look at the whole medal count, not just the medal that is changed for the home team during judged events.  The total is what matters, not just gold.

  4. Olympics is a sporting event. How do you win in a sport? You become #1 and get the Gold. No Athlete trains for silver/bronze, and don't consider themselves winning the sport by getting those medals.

  5. I agree with the others, the USA is the only country that considers total medals more important.  Most other countries seem to think gold is most important.

I would rather have both more golds and more total.

And this is not the first time the US didn't win both counts.

And the US has ALWAYS used this method of counting, check the sources:

  6. come again, pea brain ??

  7. lol that's pretty much how every country does the medal count bar USA, so yeah...

also, USA have always used the same counting system as everybody before Beijing Olympics (rank by Gold Medal), in Athenes China was ranked no. 2, higher than the Russians even though the Russians had more medal totals.

the USA media changed the medal count to rank it by total medals this Olympics, i wonder why...

  8. you mean "why did the USA change the medal count?"

in all the other olympics before this, all countries determined the winner of the medal count from the total GOLD medals. this year, everyone is doing the same thing EXCEPT for the USA. the media is distorting it because they don't want to admit they've lost.

  9. The Chinese are counting only the Gold medals so they can be first. The funny thing is the Chinese didn't use gold to make them there's led in the gold medals. China had to issue a waring to the athletes about the led in the gold medals.

Take out the sports in which Judges determine the outcome and USA would be winning the gold medal count.

  10. jeff you are wrong

  11. They didn't change it.

The International Olympics Committee puts it that way.

  12. What are you on about? It's exactly the same as the one on http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/IN... and everywhere else if you exclude the moronic sites that do it by total count.

If China had 100 Gold medals, 0 silver 0 bronze, and USA had 0 gold 0 silver, 110 bronze would you still put USA above China ? That would be so moronic.

A gold isn't worth 3 points or a hundred points. Gold is winning everything else is losing. no-one would swap a winning medal with a losing one.

Erika you say "unfortunately other countries... " - no it's the IOC who run the competition who decide how to rank medals. The ranking on their site is the way its done. You can't make up your own rules. Imagine if every team in the NBA decided to use their own scoring system.  It would be plain stupid.

  13. if u counted gold as 3 points and silver as 2 points and bronze as 1 point. China would lead USA by almost 50 points that's probably what they use
