Question:

Why did the Clottey-Judah fight go to the scorecards, but not the Toney-Rahman match? The same thing happened!

Was boxing analyst Chris Byrd right when he said they should've gone to the cards with Toney and Rahmann. In both fights, the loser told the doctor he couldn't see, although it's VERY obvious that Zab Judah lied when he told the doctor he thought the doc had 3 fingers up. The doctor himself implied that Judah was lying since the doc had already wiped the blood off before he raised his two fingers! Did Rahman get jobbed or was there a significant difference between the two situations?

  1. Rahman didn't reply when asked if he wanted to continue.  The Ref asked him 3 times and he didn't reply so the Ref interpreted that as if he didn't want to continue, thus forfeiting.

The Clottey-Judah fight went to the scorecards because even though the cut was caused by a punch the dumb Ref officially called it a headbut and the rules say that if a cut is caused by a headbut after the 4th round then the fight goes to the scorecards.

  2. the california state commision change the result of the rahman ~ toney fight to a no decision, which is what should have happened in the first place....

according to nevada rules, if a cut is caused by a but, the fight goes to the scorecards after 3 rounds, not sure about the rules in california.

  3. In case of a cut caused by an accidental headbutt we go to the score cards after 4 rounds have been completed.

The ref ruled it an accidental headbutt so that means they go to the score cards. Clottey was ahead. Clottey wins.

The Rachman-Toney fight was stopped in the third round, originally they gave Toney a 3rd round TKO, but realized because it was an accidental headbutt that the fight would be declared a no contest.

The big difference was Judah-Clottey completed 4 rounds, Rachman-Toney did not.
