The Delorean has always had a place in my heart. I love this car. I just don't understand what happened to it. Can you tell me why they stopped producing this car & why it fell off the map?

  1. Actually they have not disappeared. Delorean did go bankrupt, but a company in Houston, TX bought up all the parts his company had in stock. Believe it or not you can buy one they put together from all original parts...about $60,000...or they had some they rebuilt for around $45,000.

I think the company is DMC. I'll see if I can find their web site and give it to you.

  2. They were over priced and under powered.. you should be able to find a used one for under $15k

  3. There are a variety of factors that led to the Deloreans demise.  Deloreans were a result of John's idealistic vision of what an automobile should be, but too many compromises were made in the construction of these unique vehicles.  Also, the car didn't really fall into any market niche and was very expensive new.  Even though they are cool in a strange sort of way, most people didn't want a pricey, futuristic looking car that's made entirely out of stainless steel and is powered by a 145 horsepower Volvo V6.  Also, Deloreans sit higher in the front than the back because of poor weight distribution.  The gull wing doors also leaked.

  4. probably nobody could afford them.

  5. Seems to me that John Delorean got caught up in some kind of drug trafficking, and a variety of other legal and financial problems.
