  1. The war started by the German Empire had bled France dry, financially as well as population wise. When the Germans defaulted on the repayments they had agreed to pay the French helped themselves.


  2. The German government defaulted on repayments agreed after the treaty of Versailles, occupation of the Ruhr coal fields guaranteed payments to the French government.

  3. The occuption of the Rhur by the French and Belgians between 1923 and 1924 was a response to the Government of the German Weimar Republics failure to pay Reparations after ww1, the invasion intended to occupy the important Coal, Steel and Iron industry in the Rhur valley.
