Confused? He pushed the surge when Bush disagreed and all the Democrats were declaring defeat. And what do you know? The surge is working. He's not confused at all. McCain has been arguably the most vocal proponent of the war and the successful strategy that turned the tide of the war. As for nearly dead, he's looking pretty good for 72 and five and a half years of torture.
