  1. Any team that only has 3 good players on defense is going to be a bad team.

  2. When a Defense has to be on the field for a total of 40 minutes of playtime per game they'll really get tired.  The best offense is a good defense and versa visa.  If the patriot defense haddn't been off field for so long between they would have been a middle defense at best, but the Offense that could posses the ball for 8+ minute drives really helped them out.

  3. Taylor is a pass rusher, and Thomas and Porter were too old to keep up with the running backs. The secondary was bad too. Allen is fast, but he sucks in coverage, and they had preblems everywhere else.

  4. *Tons of injuries on defense and offense! They got so banged up at safety that they were starting 3rd stringers and Thomas missed almost the whole season, . The injuries (and lack of talent) on the offensive side led to the defense being stranded on the field.

*The secondary and the D-line (except Taylor and sometimes Holiday when healthy) was pretty pathetic.

*They mis-used Porter in passing situations

*Thomas they let go because he was making alot of money and was getting older although I think he still has a few good years left, and Taylor was the classic "pawn off your best players for draft picks while rebuilding" move.

  5. actually the defense was solid, its just 3 and out or less from the offense those poor souls couldnt get any rest and as time goes by i dont care who you are when your wore out you start hanging on to those offensive linemen like velcro with no strenght or ability to fight em off.

  6. The secondary was average, but the offense was so bad that the defense spent way too much time on the field.  The reason they let go of both Thomas and Taylor, was due to age.  Both guys have been around for a while and they figured they should get something for them while they still could.

  7. Look at the age of those players, yeah they can be good for maybe 30 snaps a game. But to think they can take 60 to 70 snaps game is crazy. d**n good solid backups though. It's a young's mans game.

  8. Well, their head coach last year was an offensive coordinator.  At one point he was the head coach for Indiana University, but he sucked as head coach there too.  I was surprised that Miami picked him as head coach.  I'd take him as an offensive coordinator, but if he can't make it as a college head coach you shouldn't try making him as an NFL head coach.

  9. 1) The miami offensive didn't do the defensive any favors.  The defense stayed to long on the field, and given bad field position.  When opposing offenses gets that many shots, and good field position, they are going to score.

    2) The three players you just named are aging veterans.

    3) The coachs background was as an offensive coordinator.

Expect better things now with Parcells being involved.  He has a history of giving immediate improvments.

  10. 1: That defense was extremely old, with the exception of a very young and inexperienced secondary.

#2: It doesn't help an old defense when your offense, led by guys like Cleo Lemon, John Beck, is constantly struggling. Ronnie Brown and Trent Green were injured for a majority of the season.

#3: Zach Thomas missed a lot of game with concussion problems.

#4: Joey Porter never got comfortable in Dom Capers' defense, which uses a mix of 4-3 and 3-4 defenses, and we know Porter is only a 3-4 outside linebacker.

There's a lot more reasons why they struggled so much, but those are the main points.

  11. Cuz those guys are old and used up.

  12. They were always on the field.  The Offense sucked.
