I saw an old film of the 1965 World Series between the L.A Dodgers and the Minnesota Twins, and was completely amazed at how the Twins old park looked like! It was such a beautiful ballpark!

When and why did the Twins ownership decide to leave that stadium?

It would have been just as old as Dodger Stadium, and look at Dodger Stadium today, it d**n near looks like it opened yesterday!

What happened to that ballpark and what was the name of it?

  1. It was a "erector set" stadium. Not enclosed with a lot of open spaces. It was a matter of keeping up with the Jones's.

  2. Its now the Mall Of America, They wanted a Downtown Stadium in Downtown Minneapolis so More People can see the Games they got it in 1981 for both the Vikings and Twins, Now in 2010 the Twins will get their own Ballpark finally and The Vikings will have to Fight for their own Stadium.

  3. It was named the Metropolitan Stadium (and is where the Mall of America is today (a home plate plaque is in the amusement park section of the mall)).

As for why.... it just wasn't large enough for the Vikings who also played there, and since it wasn't viable at the time for the city to have a stadium just for football, the Twins moved too (in 1981).  That said though, the Twins will be getting a new park just for themselves in the near future.
