Question:

Why did the Reds trade Griffey for two "prospects?"

Honestly I'm a little tired of our management not being able to do jack with our team for about the past 15 years. And I know Griffey's days are coming to a close, but I KNOW he has more trade value than for two minor league prospects.

  1. I think that is the most any team would offer for him. Reds GM  Jocketty is not an idiot. Griffey wasn't going to be there in any sort of a productive way when/if the Reds are ready to contend for anything. At this point he is not a Starting calliber player for any contending team.

He most likely will only play against Righties or pinch hit for the Sox.

  2. Because hes an old guy who cant hit anymore and hes a defensive liability, they wanted to get younger.

  3. His trade value isn't as high as you think. As great a player as he used to be, he isn't any more, he breaks down all the time, and makes a lot of money. Not very attractive package on the open market except for someone looking for a left handed slugger down the stretch.

These days, "prospects" are considered more valuable to small market teams than a veterans because they don't make a big salary and will not make a big salary for several years.

  4. to get rid of his contract

  5. idk. Ken Griffey was on a homer run streak, 1 behind sammy sosa. Idk why they traded him.

  6. The Reds know for a fact that presently they dont have a solid baseball team..but by them obtaining prospects..that means that management is concentrating on the future and not the present. Just have some patience and give them some time...watch how they will come out in 3-5 yrs.

  7. To dump his salary.....the Reds are having yet another lost season and it gets a huge salary off the books.

  8. I am a White Sox fan and I can tell you that this is kind of a good trade for the Reds. Masset is a decent pitcher who just couldn't find a spot in the rotation and Richar is already a BEAST. He is a contact type hitter with very good speed.I couldn't understand why the White sox weren't playing him at all considering he did so good when he came up last year. I can assure you Richar will be good but honestly i don't know if you should get all hyped up over Masset.

...Just trying to let you know what you are getting

  9. ken is just going to get hurt any way he always does might as well find 2 guys that can replace him

  10. Reds  most definently need to get younger in the bullpen/and in the outfield ; who knows maybe they'll get lucky and sign a HUGE Bat in 2009 in Free Agency ; i know they won't be getting Manny Ramirez but...... maybe somebody cheaper and has the same Bat Speed ; maybe they'll find  a counterpart that has almost the same stats

  11. They got rid of a 100M dollar contract. Now in the free agency in the off season they can get someone good. The reason they got rid of him was because Jeff Brantley was doggin him. So Jr. fliped him the bird. That's why they got rid of him.

  12. They need prospects more than an aging outfielder.

  13. because they're retards thats why

  14. Because they need propsets

  15. in my opinion i wouldent of done it but in the future the prospects may become moderate players but still to me griffys bin on fire
