  1. The Zimmerman note(?)/telegram;  Germany promised Mexico the land they lost to the US in the Mexican/American War in exchange for Mexico invading the US after Germany declared war on the US.

  4. Because we didn't like German submarine warfare. There was a lot of anti-German propaganda too which swayed US public opinion which was actually somewhat pro-German at the start of the war.
