Why did the United Nations prolificate peace movements?

Hey guys.. I know you would say "duh, so that countries will not fight over each other" but I need concrete citations of events that lead to this. Present events would be much, much better. Thank you guys!

The initial proliferation of peace movements was born out of the conflict of WWII.  While it could be said that these movements were created to stop countries from fighting.  It could also be argued that they allowed for better trade.  It may not have necessarily been the lessened likelihood of war versus the improvement in economics that created these movements.  Better examples of today would be the UN not backing the US-lead coalition in the Iraq war.  By not endorsing it, the UN made a statement saying that this is not the best way and that it will worsen conditions, which many would argue has.  It is difficult to bring out a significant correlation between specific events and the general idea of peace movements as it is created from the conglomeration of events as a whole.

The occurrence of the two World Wars gave the concept of organizing a world organization to promote peace.  Thus, the United Nations was conceived by the leaders of the world in order to foster peace and eliminate was as an instrument of settling disputes.
