Why did the Yankees release Richie Sexson?

I know he was only hitting .250, but it was in only 28 at-bats. He also had an OPS of .764 which is higher than the MLB average. At the very least, he could have stayed around as a pinch hitter and defensive replacement.

  1. Sexon was brought in to hit lefties....and he did just that.  I think he was in the .270's with a hr or two.  My guess on his release is that it was a clubhouse issue.  He has a reputation as being a terrible teammate.  I'm no Yankee fan, but of all the teams in the majors, the Yankees have no tolerence for bad clubhouse personalities.

  2. Maybe they think like me. I hate Richie Sexon. Him being a giant and what not.

  3. have you been in a cave the past two years ?  Sexson couldnt hit water if he fell out of a boat.  they released Sexson for the same reason the Mariners released him ....... he sucks.

  4. He wasnt doing that gud and they dont need him

  5. Sexton is terrible and unbelievably overpaid.

  6. He was a strikeout machine, that's why. He barely made contact and looked bad doing it. He was the ultimate risk-reward hitter.

As a Yankees fan, I won't be shedding too many tears now that Big s**y is back on the street. All the Yankees lost was $390,000, which is a mere drop in the bucket. Safe to say he won't be coming back to the new Stadium for a future Old Timers' Day.

Maybe the Rays will get him to add an insurance bat.

  7. Defensive replacement?!  Why would they want to sub in a player who plays bad defense?

  8. ...simply because you can't put c**p on a baseball diamond.
