  1. To teach basic Base Defense, First aid and other skills you will need, when you are deployed.

  2. No it's not two extra weeks to treat someone that has been wounded. That was in the previous BMT already. If you haven't known there are more USAF troops being sent to combat overseas. If you don't believe me google it. They are training their Airmen better to be more prepared.

  3. For a variety of reasons. They have added new classes and new training. They also want the Airmen to be "More lethal" and more capatible to the other branches in terms of being "Combat Ready". If you go to AirForce.com and go into "Basic Training" it actually has both the current 6.5 week BMT Program up, and the 8.5 BMT Program up(Which takes into effect this Nov). You can see all the comparisons. They've added alot. They have also extended time using firearms such as the M-16(So you will spend more time with it than usual).

They have been wanting to do this for awhile but never got the funding they needed. Now they do.

  4. The Air Force finally realized that it is part of the military, and has to prepare Airmen for combat, rather than just folding shirts and such.

  5. From what I've heard the two extra weeks are to teach you how to treat someone wounded.
