  1. Incandescence--

    When a substance is heated the atoms become excited/ This causes the electrons to move to a higher quantum level. As the electrons move back down to their normal quantum state they emit photons. The color (wavelength) of the light is proportional to the amount of energy absorbed, and released.

    As the atoms get more energetic they emit light that goes from red to orange to yellow.

    This is according to Planck's Law
