Why did the firemen burn the books in fahrenheit 451?

  1. The government thought that books were poisoning the minds of people, giving them ideas. They thought that any type of book, of any genre, allowed people to think. But the government knew that as long as people were allowed to freely think, there would be problems. So they banned books. Then firemen were created. Anytime someone was caught with a book, the firemen were called to burn the books and the house, sometimes the holder of the book.  


  2. It began because people actually wanted the to, because they didn't want the trouble, the thought, and the difference i opinion that came from books. Then they jus did it, no one took time to read, etc... and began to take more control of the aspects of the people's lives.
