  1. well that should be obvious....we cannot survive without water.

  2. In a word : Water. Without water you cannot live. Without water, the animals and plants you depend on for food will not live. Life needs water.

  3. The fact is no one knows for sure why there.  The theory is based on the fact that Mesopotamia developed a very intensive and efficient irrigation system that no one had ever thought to do before.

The irrigation system allowed the farmers there to produce three crops a year, creating a huge food surplus which they could trade among themselves and with other peoples.  This creating the first farmer\merchants.  But so much food was produced it allowed a large amount of people to leave farming and devote themselves to make craft products or establish cottage industries to make goods for sale.  The critical mass of the people who could devote themselves to crafts is important because development in one manufactured product often leads to advances in other trades and also the development of tools.

Mesopotamia developed elemtary architecture (and later very sophisticate architecture), leather tanning, the first textiles, the first dyes, the first kilns for pottery, the first potting wheel so the could mass produce ceramics, the mass amount of pottery being maufactured led to the development of the first crucible and the ability to melt metals and pour them in molds and\or forge metals into the shapes the wanted, which lead to bronze swords, iron working,

In short you can see that because there were so many people who were freed-up from farming because of tremedously large food surpluses, non-farmers had to turn to something and that something was manufacturing and trading and they turned to them with a vengence.

  4. Hi, I will try to give you some relevant ideas for the question, my inspiration is from reading "Beyond good and evil" of the great philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche

Nietzsche:  34. At whatever standpoint of philosophy one may place oneself nowadays, seen from every position, the ERRONEOUSNESS of the world in which we think we live is the surest and most certain thing our eyes can light upon:

    --Friedrich Nietzsche

J -> the first civilization is near the river because everyone know to choose a favorable condition for life

    Anyone be my friend? dung.sff@gmail.com

Nietzsche:  we find proof after proof thereof, which would fain allure us into surmises concerning a deceptive principle in the "nature of things.

    --Friedrich Nietzsche

e -> everyone want to have the best for oneself, but one does not know that all developped from the instinct, including the world

    Anyone be my friend? dung.sff@gmail.com

    Nietzsche: " He, however, who makes thinking itself, and consequently "the spirit," responsible for the falseness of the world--an honourable exit, which every conscious or unconscious advocatus dei avails himself of--he who regards this world, including space, time, form, and movement, as falsely DEDUCED, would have at least good reason in the end to become distrustful also of all thinking;

    --Friedrich Nietzsche

s -> the valley has good properties for man, it is then choosen, now man does not need the river nearby because he has developped more tools and abilities to live without being near the river

Nietzsche:  has it not hitherto been playing upon us the worst of scurvy tricks? and what guarantee would it give that it would not continue to do what it has always been doing?

    --Friedrich Nietzsche

u -> you are interested in a very strange question, I am not very satisfied with my answer

    Anyone be my friend? dung.sff@gmail.com

Nietzsche:  In all seriousness, the innocence of thinkers has something touching and respect-inspiring in it, which even nowadays permits them to wait upon consciousness with the request that it will give them HONEST answers:
