Why did the flowers on my miniature calamondin tree drop so quickly?

Hi,

I bought a little calamondin tree. THere are some fruits still on this that are orange now, but about a couple weeks ago, I noticed on the other side of the tree that some flower buds were emerging. Some of them opened only for a few days before withering and dying and some of them never opened and just dried up.

Why did they die so quickly?

  1. hi

you didn't mention all the details...so im going to assume some scenarios and then try to help...

firstly was it planted in a pot or was it planted in ground... one of the reasons for what happened may be that the soil in the pot may have dried.... if it was dry even for a few hours, the flowers would wilt...

or did u shift the pot's position...? sometimes when pots are moved around, the plants lose some foliage and flowers/fruits until it gets suited to that new place... then it will start blooming again...

and finally did you fertilize it? if u used a water based fertilizer, the plant may have got over fertilized... it happens with solid fertilizers as well... when its over fertilized, the roots burn off and so the plant suffers.... my advice is to always use a little less fertilizer than recommended on the box..

also check for bugs... bugs love new buds so that may be y only ur flowers were lost and not the fruit....

    hope this helped..

    tc.
