  1. bcuz they wntd to be famous

  2. coz of a mad dictator mosolini and before him

italy claimed libya was a 4th coast based on historical roman empire territories (which ruled most of the world some time inc uk)

they wanted expansion and solving economic difficulties

the war crimes and crimes against humanity and massacares were not exagerated. that is an insult to a holocaust when mossilinin wiped half the libyans population

and started some of the 1st conc camps, killing civillians, raping, torching land, displacing thousands forcefullu to italy etc..

he used tanks in desert for first time and first air raid bombardment was on a town south of Tripoli

libyans resisted bravely with whatever they had

omar mokhtar was a legendry 70+ years old rebel leader

eventually italians settled in some outposts untill they were removed from libya by allies in WWII who were helped by libyans in the tough terraiin and sahara

the battle for libya was pivotal in final allies victory

italian army was never well equipped or trained and always called assistance from natives of ethipia and other colonies

Recently, Italian primier officially apologised to Libyan people and settlements and compensation was agreed

reconcilliation is now official and both countries and people should look to fruitful mutual beneficial future

  3. Because Italy was a fresh kingdom they were Just United

and they wanted to expand the Kingdom to other Lands like other European Nation .

so they invade Ethiopia Eritrea Somalia and Libia that's from Africa  only  we are not talking about other European Lands which Italy have invaded !

And that time Libya was the Only north African country which is not Invaded yet by any other European nation and it was still an Ottoman Land and the Ottoman Empire was weak and in it's last days  and Italy wanted to make !

so they took the chance they invaded it in 1911 after italo-turca (war) the turks withdrawal and let Libyans to resistance and it was before the Fascism time !

    it was in 1911

Italians made horrible crimes and Massacres specially during the Dictatorship time of Italy and the fascist time when Mussolini sent Graziani to Libya he killed 300,000 person of Libya and he made the several concentration  and labor camps where he killed many Libyans!

and Libyans were only 900,000 person that time !

Sadly non of the countries teach the right History each one change and hide the truth.

    whatever it's the government

and the same we can Blame Libya for it's to force the Italians and Libyans(Jews) out of the country in 1970 most of those Italians  were normal Civilians and many of them were born and raised there in Libya so it's his country  and no one have the right to force him to leave and they force them to leave their stuff so they were leaving and they lost their lives also !

until the 2004 they were give a  permission to go back to see their properties and places now most of them died or Aged !

sure we won't Blame normal Libyans for that also !

x sheerkh:  why did Libya Invade Chad ?

  4. The war between Italy and the Ottoman Empire in 1911 is one of the last episodes in the colonial race of the European powers. Italy and Germany, both late comers due to their unification (186o and 1870), had their eyes on North Africa in order to wrest the control of trade in the Mediterranean, where Britain and France reigned supreme. France had just beaten the Italians to Tunis, which had a high Italian population, so Italy activated a lively diplomatic activity in order to assure allies, like Russia and Austria (possible second front in the Balkans – which followed in 1913) and French (firmly entrenched in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia) and British neutrality (Egyptian interests). Once assured, on the pretext of defending  Italian citizens menaced by the Turks in Cyrenaica, Italy declared war and invaded. The outcome of a modern, well armed  European force against an outdated Turkish army, was considered a foregone conclusion. The Turks, however rallied, fought well and forced the Italians into a brutal retaliation, with a number of  civilian casualties. The “Lybians”, a small subject nation of the Turks, opted for  guerrilla warfare, even after the subsequent peace treaty, which bespoke Tripolitania and Cyrenaica, together with the Aegean Greek islands to Italy. Quite a bleak and unfortunate chapter in Italian colonial history, even if the casualty “figures” conjured up recently on the  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœLybian” side are wildly exaggerated. It’s no excuse, obviously, but the Italian coast had been subject to continuous “Saracen” raids from North Africa for centuries, with very real and documented  casualties, slaves and destruction. History cannot be undone, but it should also not be an instrument of  continuous retaliatory requests, after all “Italy”  could pull ancient scrolls out and “claim” damages from half of Europe and North Africa.

  6. perchè mussolini considerava la libia un luogo dove poter mandare a lavorare i disoccupati italiani, inoltre voleva anche lui come le altre grandi nazioni europee avere delle colonie.

    translation:

because mussolini considered the libia a place where to be able to send to work the Italian unemployed, wanted also besides him as the other great European nations to have some colonies.

  7. i think if you asked the italians now, they still wouldn't know!
