Why did the news-media stop using the prefix. "The Holy City of...." when reporting on city in the Iraq War?

I noticed that they stopped using it simultaneously.

Holy means:" A person (or place) that  is Chosen by God to do/for his work such as  Priests, city of karbala .....  .  Since Al-Quaeda and other Islamic groups fighting against our troops call themselves" Mujaheddin such as al-quaeda, Almahdi ...." ( God's worriers ), who follow the idea of imams who are buried in one of theses cities; the media hesitates to call these cities holy since these cities are called holy because these imam's are buried there and  Mujaheddin( God's worriers) relate themselves and are  inspired by philosophy of imams.
