  1. It's still going

  2. Agatha Christie wrote about it... there was a murder on board...

  3. Ther was something called World War 2 and after that the Iron Curtain between the 2 blocks in Europe. Besides, in the 60ies something called airtrafic became very popular and fairly cheap.

So, people gave up to bother with visa for all the states. The luxury version of the Orient Express was given up a long, long time ago. After that there was a 2-class version for a while. You still can ride the whole route, but with changing trains.

  4. lots of immigration problems

  5. There have been a variety of trains with that name.

The wikipedia outlines the history of those trains, and why they came and went:

  6. The full Simplon-Orient Express as a service train which anyone could ride on lingered until the 1970s, but as a shadow of its former self. Through most of the Balkans it was viewed as a purely local service, not a premier express as had been the case in its glory days.

The rights to the name were acquired by the Sea Containers group who purchased vintage pullman coaches used on the original train. Rakes now run in England and also on the continent from the channel to Venice, but this is an expensive 'land cruise' service, not a train for regular passengers.
