Why did the original ECW make the entrance ramp so close to the fans when the fans could hit or abuse them?

cause so the crowd can get into the wrestler more, you don't get into people that doesn't interact with the crowd

Because the original ECW was never in big arenas, it was always in bingo halls and ballrooms so they never had enough space for a wider ramp. Plus it let the fans interact with the wrestlers.
