Why did the people burn cars in France?

They don't.  I have been living in Paris for several years and have never seen this happen.  I am aware of media coverage of this but it only happened in a small village outside of Paris a couple times and only a few people were involved.  

So, I think the U.S. media has exaggerated it a bit.

More cars are burned in the U.S. every day than were ever burned in France.  

You should go check out East Los Angeles, or certain parts of Chicago or Detroit.

Because they have nothing better to do. It's usually young thugs. Cars are easy and quick to burn and create a scene with flames and noise. They also rarely cause injury or death to others, as burning or destroying other things might cause. It also leaves little evidence for police to catch who did it but there is a big, ugly mess at the end.

We had one on our street, two doors down from us and I can tell you that it's very, very scary. Of course it was night, my husband wasn't home and the kids were just in bed on a school night. The flames were two stories high and the noise was unbelievable. This was a very small car too! For the record, we live in a nice area but there's a dodgy area nearby and the school is close to us so kids walk through the neighborhood on the way home.

It was strange in how it was handled. The fire department showed up silently. They put it out quickly and no damage was done to the houses. Next thing I know, there are flashlights all over the place. The police arrived, again silently, and were combing the neighborhood, stopping anyone on foot. They clearly have a set plan for handling these incidents.

They also burned a car about a block away a few months ago and once they did a bus. That was even worse. The windows kept exploding and the smoke was unreal. I was actually relieved it was a bus because it was near some apartment blocks and I thought one of them was on fire.

No one was injured in any of these incidents.

I think jealousy also plays a role. Even modest cars are expensive. I spent over 500 euros on my license and I already had a California one. Many can't afford even to get the license, let alone pay for repairs, maintence and other car costs, not to mention the car itself. In America, even those with modest incomes can afford cars but in France, it's definitely a luxury item.

A friend's husband actually had his car burned in a fenced company parking lot while he was working late. It's so bad here that people remove their cars from the streets on New Years' Eve. We're worse than some areas around Paris. I'm glad we have a garage and I'm also glad these usually unemployed thugs and school drop outs can't get a hold of guns!

to do something !!!! you know France is poor and the people here is not really intelligent (because they don't speak very well english) and to be recognize everywhere in the world they prefer burn cars than kill kids in college....
