Why did the people of Pompeii preserve the animals remains?

I have a question on this one worksheet that asks: In a bustling first-century city, people used beats of burden for agriculture and to turn mills, yet there are a few preserved remains of these Animals. Why?

  1. Consider the number of cars in a bustling 20th century city c. 1950. They were used for transportation, to carry supplies and for status.

    Why are there so few remains of these cars?

    The answer to both questions is that they were replaceable and when no longer useful, were discarded. Certainly the owner of a 1950 Nash Rambler would have looked askance had you suggested that his rusted wreck should be somehow preserved for the ages.

  5. Your question then statement are contradictions.  As to the question, I have no clue.  As to the statement, I'm guessing they ate them after they got to old to work.
