why did the philippines send in Harry Tanamor for boxing instead of Manny Pacquiao?http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/athletes?country_codes=PHI

i asked my dad he said because Pacquiao is a much experienced boxer and it's not fair for other countries. But i said, the US sent in Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade and they are much experienced athletes! Now that's unfair!

Dont get me wrong, im not hating on the US team and the Philippine team. In fact i'm a supporter of both teams!

So, why did they send in a person other than Pacquiao?

  1. Manny Pacquiao is a professional boxer.

Olympic Boxing is for amateur boxers.

Boxers usually start off in the amateurs, learn the craft, go to Olympics

then turn professional to make a lot of money.

There is no rule saying Professionals can't go back to being an Amateur but it rarely if ever happens.

    The rules are much different.

  2. The simple answer is because he is a professional boxer and the boxing at the olympics is still only for amateurs.
